Comments: Our five year old GSD, Cody, was recently diagnosed with DM. It's hard to think that this beautiful animal in the prime of life has developed such an insideous disease. We will strive to keep him with us as long as we can. He is so spirited and it is heartbreaking to see him struggle to keep his dignity.

Comments: I read the story of Jack Flash and cried for you both. I have lost two of my GSDs to DM - both were almost fourteen years old. It was hard, but not so hard as it is now when we face the loss of our 7 year old Ashla. She is now suffering paresis, very unstable in her movements and some days cannot rise or walk. But she is in great spirits, wants to go out albeit for such a short walk, and wanting to play. She is still continent apart from the odd accident of which she is unaware.
In all other ways she is a beautiful healthy dog - never a day's illness in her life.
In addition we have our three year old Golden Retriever with terminal cancer.
It's been a tough year, but we just value every day with each of them, and hope there are many days still to come.
There are surveys and examinations in the UK into this crippling disease. I hope so much that one day someone somewhere will find a cure.
My good wishes and thoughts go to anyone who has a dog suffering with DM

I live alone and work all day in an office, so I don't know if I will be able to give him the care needed to give him a fighting chance to preserve quality of life for a while.
