Comments: Our beloved Sissy was diagnosed with DM today. Wow, this disease has progressed fast with her. We noticed her hind legs dragging on friday and today she can't walk or get up. I will start her on diet and Dr. clemmons recommended medication as soon as I can get everything together. What a sad disease. It breaks my heart to see my little girl slowly dying. I pray the diet and medication can keep my Sissy with us for more years to come. amber

Comments: a most incredible and informative tribute to a great dog. I am grateful that my beloved Oreo's onset of DM is late in life (age 16+)and that her life up to now has been one of freedom, adventure, and a social life that would be the envy of anyone. She is a mix of border collie, ridgeback, pitbull and chow, black & white, about 35 lbs. She spent a long career as mascot for the State Fair of Virginia Draft Horse Hitch and is known and beloved by many. She is adapting well to her disability (she no longer has any use of her hind legs) as have I in the routines of her daily care and activity schedule. We all know our lives here are short but this experience has really brought home the truth that every day is a gift to be savored in its every detail and nuance. My heart goes out to everyone who is in the midst of this ordeal watching their beloved partner slip away a little bit at a time.

Comments: Marjorie: I was unable to access the "send e-mail" button on your site; perhaps my browser (Mozilla Firefox) does not support that feature. I am just writing to provide you with information regarding the newest pet hydrotherapy site in the Denver, CO area where one of my corgis swims:

Canine Rehabilitation and Conditioning Group (CRCG)
3760 S. Lipan Street
Englewood, CO 80110-3476
phone: 303.762.7946

This facility is a few blocks away from the Veterinary Referral Center of Colorado, listed on your site, and is owned by a physical therapist on staff there. With thanks and appreciation for your efforts on behalf of special needs dogs, Deborah Waitz, MD

How you found our site: search for info on DM in German Sheperds
Would you recommend our site to others?: Thank God for this site. Absolutely. passed info on to my ve

Comments: I am still trying to figure this out.Found Dr.Clemmon's protocol on internet but I need help, especially after I start prescription about how to taper off what to do after3 months on the "plan". My vet does not have time/resources really to research and possibly not to determine how to follow up with Dr. Clemmons about all of this. I will be doing everything Dr. Clemmons recommended on his site but it looks like it was written in 1998 and I can not find if there have been any revisions in his recommendations since 1998. As I said our veterinary resources are very limited here in the rural mountains of North Carolina.

**Note from Marjorie: Dr. Clemmons continually updates his site, the most recent being one month ago. Please go to Dr Clemmons' main neurology page at http://neuro.vetmed.ufl.edu/neurohp.html
and review the clickable links under Degenerative Myelopathy of German Shepherd Dogs.

Comments: I am just reading all of this info. Will get back to you. My Misty, a humane society rescue GSD, may have DM. I intend to have my vet send the sample for the DMFlash test right away. Just lost my heart and soul GSD, Mazal Tov, Nov. 30th to cancer. Heartbroken and can't lose my Misty. I now have 3 shepherds, 1 Border Collie, 3 mixes.

Comments: What a wonderful world of info. you have done so much research extremely helpful. Having just lost my beautiful sister-in-law to the dreaded MS I plan to send donation in her memory to your research. My GSD didn't lose his life at 14yrs. to DM but now have a King Shepherd 6mos. and have posted your site on our King Shepherd Questions message board on Yahoo. No one never knows when they will need your info, but it is so great to have on hand. Your Jack sounded so wonderful. After putting down our wonderful Jake, that night the pain in my head and heart was so great, I litterally thought I too was dying, I share your pain. Thank you for your story, I was on your site till after 4 this morning. Sincerely, Jude Kegerreis
