Comments: My Annie (Annieboo) is 13 and I suspect that she has had this for at least a year, mabye longer but was just now diagnosed formally. I am not about to give up on her without a fight so I am gathering as much information as I can about this and treatments. I pray that it is not too late for us to help my Annieboo.

Comments: I have a 14 yr old Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Journey. Everything I have read tonight has led me to believe she may have been suffering with DM for the last year or so. She has all the symptoms - difficulty getting up and down and walking, and falls frequently. Her left back leg is rotating inward and she drags the top of it when she walks. She now has also become incontinent. We have an appt with our Vet Saturday. I thought this was just arthritis or old age... I had no idea... I've never heard of this condition and not sure if my vet has either. I'm afraid it's too late for any type of aggresive treatment plan for her at this point... I wish I had found your website sooner... God bless you for what you have done for all of us, and God help me with the decision I must make for my beloved Journey.

Comments: I noticed my Cheseapeak dragging one hind leg because I heard her paw scraping on the rug. We've had x-rays done and no sign of hip problems and her health is otherwise excellent and she's in good weight. Our vet has did diagnose her for anything, just said if she gets uncomfortable bring her in.

I understand from the AKC that diagnosis should be available from DNA alone very soon and I plan to do that then. In the meantime, I'm trying to follow the Dr.Clemments advice on diet and supplements.

This is heartbreaking - more so I think because in every other way Scoop seems her old happy and busy self. So far, only one limb seems to be affected.

My heart goes out to all of you.
*********

From Marjorie:

Sadly, the AKC does not distinguish between the types of DM-the DM of German Sheherd Dogs is not the same as DM of other breeds- therefore, the test, IMHO, may be useless for the different types of DM
and only good for the type of DM they are studying. Many breeds get a myelopathy that is progressive and chronic, but the DM of the GSD has an autoimmune factor behind it.

Comments: We had to put our beloved girl Sallie down on Saturday. She was diagnosed 4 years ago, and thanks to the care of Dr. Jim Friedly of Falcon, Colorado, she had a lot of quality time with us. She was the biggest, sweetest, most protective girl I've ever known. Thank you for this site. I believe I saved her any additional suffering because things I read here. I lool forward to the day when I stop crying because it won't be any time soon. Til we meet again, my Angel.

Comments: I have a 13-year-old Pitt Bull Lab named Jed that has been suffering from DM for a little over a year. We are in the stages of deciding whether to euthanize or not. His will is still strong as he wants to play but cannot. Its very sad to watch and the decision is hard. I know he will not make it through the winter or deal well with being indoors as the Alzheimers is worse when he is confined. I thank you for this site and the wealth of info here.
