I see so many similarities in our German Shepherd Dogs, they love their toys, don't they? My Scout needs assistance to walk now, back legs just don't work anymore. Thank you for being here and all your hard work. So sorry for your loss of Jack Flash. My love, my running partner. She is always ready for a run. 6 weeks ago we ran 18 miles together, It was great, she was grinning and happy. Now were trying to find out whats wrong all signs of DM are present. She is in the first stages of tests. The blood came back clean. I am praying that we find something in the X-rays. The only hope we have is that her signs of weekness were sudden and in a weeks time progressed rapidly. It breaks our heart to have to put him down. He was diagnosed with DM a couple months ago. Originally a year ago it was hip displasia with a different vet. It breaks our heart to see him trying to walk now, but it also tears us up to make this decision, but it is only fair to him. I wish we would have known it sooner, to try to prolong his life a little. your website has really helped with information. I really hope other people learn their dog has dm earlier so they can spend more time with their dogs and enjoy their life before they go! Charlie is 9 years old. He has been in a wheelchair for 8 months now and using diapers for the last coupleof months. It is scaring me now that he is acting depressed more days than not. His bark has reached the stage of almost being non existent. His sister misses playing with him and I know she will be heart broken right along side of us. It is going to be time soon, I know, but I am having a hard time since we lost his mother due to complications of SARDS and his Aunt passed away in her sleep. Charlie has been such an inspiration of determination and not letting anything get in the way of chasing the squirrels. I am sad but understand all when I look in his big brown eyes. It is such a devastating disease and I am grateful for your website and the information provided. Thank you Entry 885 made on 2008-10-17 10:17:10 Visitor's Name: Shelley Homepage URL: .... You are from: Pa How you found our site: Google Search Would you recommend our site to others?: With out any doubt Comments: This site is awesome. My baby boy, King, is 11 and a half and has MD. He has not been tested officially, but he has all the signs and has been seeing the same vet for his whole life. At first like many others I have read, I thought it was hip dysplasia. I called my vet and asked about wheel chairs and a possible hip replacement. It was at that point he started asking me for Kings symptoms. He asked if King was dragging his feet and crossing them when he walked, and if he had scrapes on the top of his claws on the back paws. I had to answer yes to all of these, at which point my vet told me, the chances were very high King had MD. I had never heard of it before and was shocked. I asked what treatments were available , at which point he told me not many that are proven effective. King can still walk although it is a great struggle for him. He is on Deranmaxx. He gets a half a pill every 12 hours, it seems to be working well for the pain. I have had king since he was 8 weeks old, and he has been my best friend and the love of my life, for 11 and a half years. I have been a complete and utter mess over all of this, I had female I just had to send to the other side, in June, she had a rare liver, kidney problem that causes massive seizures, she was only 2 and a half. Now dealing with my big boy and this MD, its killing me from me from the inside out. He is a very strong and bullheaded German Shepherd and watching this disease pummel him is about more then I can bear. His mind is clear and sharp and his spirit is solid, but his body is just breaking down on him, and I feel so helpless like there is little I can do to stop it. I have watched it get considerably worse here in the past few months, and was asking myself if it was time to let him go, before this thing destroys him. Asking when is enough, enough, then the guilt, how can I even think about letting him go? This disease truly is the most horrible thing to fight and live with. Thats when I decided to do some research and see if I could find any answers. Then I found your site. My tears will not stop flowing, and the emotions are so strong there are no words. May what ever god you serve , bless you 10 fold... I wondered if anyone else in Ontario has ordered the prescribed medications from the U.S. or found them somewhere else in Ontario where they can be purchased. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Comments: My beautiful Lobo is a 10 year old GSD who has been the love of my life since I rescued him from a shelter when he was 18 months. He was diagnosed with DM about a year ago. My poor boy has had many medical issues throughout his life including an early diagnosis of hip displaysia and an occurance of bloat. My husband and I have done everything and anything we can to make him happy and comfortable. Now we are faced with something that we can't fix and we are devestated. Lobo is getting worse at a rapid speed and I know he won't be with us much longer. Thank you so much for your site and for the beautiful story about Jack Flash. I was crying uncontrollably as I could feel the pain you were feeling when you were writing it. I wish I had found your site sooner.
