We take daily walks but I have noticed a progression of his inabilities over the last 6 months. I thought it was just his hips. But he has been more incontinent lately both urine & fecal. He used to go into his doghouse & sleep but now he won't go in it even when it drops to 14 degrees outside. He has the Super size Indigo Dogloo with cedar shavings in it. Last year he would go in it every night. This year when he wouldn't go in it, I figured something was up. He crosses his hind legs frequently on walks and acts like he is drunk and sometimes can't stand correctly. It like a loss of nerve control. He isn't able to run anymore. I wonder what to do next. Even if a veterinarian isn't going to be able to fix his condition, I know I don't want him to suffer. Yogi was a gift from a 90 year old friend who had lost the ability to care for him some 5 years ago. I adopted him with the thought of caring and loving him forever. Thanks for your site. This is heartbreaking - as all of you know I realize from reading these messages - it's amazing, there are so many good people out there, who care, truly care so much for their families. Zues, our big hearted, handsome boy, has DM. We are starting him on the diet, vitamins, got him a wheelchair, and can you believe it, that 12 1/2 year old boy is the one keeping OUR spirits up. His courage, strength, and determination is heart-breaking and inspiring all at the same time. I wish we were worthy of him - and ever day, we will try to live up to the example he is setting for us - although it is mighty high. Bless you all, and know that here is one more family, feeling your pain and having the grace of God to have a big hearted lover-boy in your lives. It is we who are truly blessed. |
